Previous drill holes at the prospect are mostly shallow (typically
less than 80 metres), and have tested a subvertical granodiorite
contact. Limited deep-drilling shows that the granodiorite contact
flattens out at depth and therefore the true potential of this deposit
has not yet been properly tested. Three dimensional modelling of the
sheared schist granodiorite contact has shown improved grades at depth
below 80 metres.
Auger geochemical surveys have outlined a northwest trending
lenticular gold anomaly 900 metres in length by 300 metres in width
with a maximum value of 200ppb Au. The anomaly straddles the
boundary between the two tenements and is coincident with the trend
of the Lady Allison workings.
RC drilling has shown the Lady Allison deposit has a significant
depth extension with locally high gold grades. The better intercepts
3 12 metres @ 3g/t Au from 78 metres
3 5 metres @ 27.5g/t Au from 104 metres
3 7 metres @ 3.29g/t Au from 148 metres
Historical production from the Lady Allison prospect is reported to
be 100 tonnes at a grade of 3.86g/t Au.
The strike length of the mineralised system has only been partially
tested by RC drilling and is subject to complex internal structural
controls. The localised grades of the better shoots exceed 1oz/t.
LOGANS (HAROLDS FIND, LADY JEAN)
Logans Project is in the eastern part of a north-trending Archaean
greenstone belt, as is the case for Spargoville. The geology of the
Logans area from west to east consists of felsic volcaniclastic rocks with
minor sediments, komatiites, gabbros and high magnesium basalts.
There is a mafic-ultramafic belt of rocks with felsic volcanics and
sediments flanking either side. The gabbro differentiation and basalt
pillow structures indicate that the sequence is dipping to the east at 60
to 80 degrees and the facing is east. The area is interpreted as
comprising the western limb of a syncline with its axis to the east of
the tenements in a volcanoclastic rock sequence.
The contacts between the mafic and ultramafic rocks are sheared
and form favourable locations for gold mineralisation. The Harolds Find
structure is a sheared contact dipping at 70 degrees to the east and
flattening at depth. Silicification, disseminated pyrite and arsenopyrite
and biotite alteration are associated with the gold mineralisation. Two
gold mineralised north-trending shears occur: at Harolds Find and 900
metres to the east, at Lady Jean mines, a major shear (Logans Find
shear) localises another significant gold mineralised north trend.
Between the Harolds Find and Lady Jean structures there are other
shear zones hosting gold mineralisation. All mineralised structures have
old workings on them and all mining, apart from small open cuts on
Harolds Find and Lady Jean, has been conducted by underground
An exploration target has been reported and defined as a resource
on the Harolds Find shear as 84,000 tonnes @ 1.8g/t Au. This included
13,162 tonnes @ 2.4g/t (Indicated) and 70,440 tonnes @ 1.7g/t
(Inferred) with reported grades up to 10.9g/t Au. Follow-up drilling is
planned to confirm and further develop this resource estimate. Along
the Logans Find shear which hosts the Lady Jean mines (east of Harolds
Find), the gold mineralised trend is at least 600 metres in length and
could be up to 2,500 metres in length.
LARKINVILLE (EAGLES NEST, SPECIMEN GULLY PROSPECTS)
The Larkinville mining area became famous in 1931 when Jim Larcombe
Jr. found the 1,135 ounce Golden Eagle nugget whilst dryblowing in an
east-west alluvium drainage channel. It is reported that within a short
period of time of finding the Golden Eagle some 2,000oz of gold from
the same area had been recovered.
The structural setting of the Larkinville area has many features that
make the area highly prospective for gold mineralisation including:
3 north northwest tight folding, shearing and faulting
3 east-west cross faulting and Protozoic dykes.
The geology of Larkinville consists of north – south trending
mafics, ultramafics and sediments including black shales with a granite
intrusion developed in the south west. The greenstones are intruded by
this biotite granite and by smaller granitic dykes including pegmatites
Some striking geological features at the Larkinville mining centre
are the narrow bands of rock striking north–south. These bands of rock
are numerous where gold from alluvium has been mined successfully and
include a graphitic type rock, known locally as ‘blue lode’. The lodes
generally strike north and dip steeply to the east. Quartz veins and
reefs are also numerous in the area and vary considerably in strike and
dip. Generally, the major quartz reefs trend in a north west direction.
A group of tenements approximately 6.5 kilometres to the south
west is also now held by Carrick in an area called ‘Specimens Gully’. The
significance of these tenements will be identified with future drilling.
Testing of the mapped geological features at Spargoville (Lady
Allison Prospect) will coincide with drill testing which is planned to
commence in the new year.
OTHER TENEMENTS (NORTH EAST LARKINVILLE, NORTH
WEST WATTLE DAM, NORTH SPARGOVILLE)
The North West Wattle Dam tenement and North Spargoville tenement
are underexplored with little information available other than the
strategic locations. The North Spargoville tenement E15/1174 is
expansive, covering approximately 42km2, and covers extensions of
southern mineralised structures from the Lady Allison tenements
P15/4888 and P15/4889 to the north-west. The North East Larkinville
tenement P15/5392 is interpreted to be 200 metres south west of a
mineralised paleochannel. The paleochannel and associated mineralised
structure is believed to trend into P15/5392. The North West Wattle
Dam tenement P15/5494 is located approximately 2 kilometres north
west of Wattle Dam gold mine.
Carrick’s total resource stands at 50.1 m. tonnes @ 2.6g/t Au for 4.19
m. ounces (refer Table 1).
